Carlo Ratti, director the Senseable City Laboratory, a research initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Carlo Ratti Associati, will talk about radical changes in how we describe and understand cities. The increasing deployment of sensors and hand-held electronics are among the new tools we use to design the built environment. Ratti’s work has been exhibited in international venues including the Venice Biennale, New York’s MoMA, London’s Science Museum, and Barcelona’s Design Museum. Two of his projects – the Digital Water Pavilion and the Copenhagen Wheel – were hailed by Time Magazine as ‘Best Inventions of the Year.’ He has been included in Blueprint Magazine’s ‘25 People who will Change the World of Design’ and in Wired Magazine’s ‘Smart List: 50 people who will change the world.’ John R. and Donna S.
